Carlos Miguel Prieto Releases New Copland Recording

On June 14, 2019, Carlos Miguel Prieto released his latest album with the Orchestra of the Americas on Linn Records. Copland & Chávez: Pan-American Reflections features live recordings of Copland’s Third Symphony alongside Carlos Chávez’s Symphony No. 2 “Sinfonia India,” often recognized as two of these composers’ greatest works. Written a mere decade apart, the works are juxtaposed nicely and create an opportunity for the listener to appreciate the unique styles of each composer. This pairing can only be made more compelling by remembering that these composers were not only contemporaries, but close friends and colleagues, influencing one another and helping to share each other’s work in their respective home countries.

Prieto, named Musical America’s 2019 Conductor for the Year, makes his debut on the Linn label with this album. This summer, he is scheduled to lead the Orchestra of the Americas on their summer tour through Mexico, as well as work with the young musicians of Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 program in late July.
